UV-curable hotmelt pressure sensitive adhesives are nowadays used in various industrial self adhesive products. With this adhesive technology it is possible to replace solvent based adhesives in many applications. UV hotmelt is technically outperforming waterbased or thermoplastic rubber based pressure sensitive adhesives in many ways.
- Resistance to sunlight
- Environmentally friendly
- High temperature stability
- For direct food contact
- Good chemical resistance
- Perfectly matched formulations
Detailed information about UV-Hotmelts
UV hotmelt can be applied at only 130°C with a slot die onto the substrate and immediately crosslinked with a medium pressure mercury lamp. As inert atmosphere is not required, the coating and crosslinking process can be considered easy and simple. Furthermore the adhesive properties can be adjusted to some extent. By adjusting the UV dose it is possible to increase or reduce initial tack as well as cohesion.
In particular for the production of no label look labels the use of a UV hotmelt is the first choice. Usually the label printer will buy a ready made self adhesive laminate, print it and protect the ink by over laminating a film against abrasion or the influence of soap, shower gel or shampoo. Several label printers are achieving cost savings of up to 30% with a reverse printing onto the face material and do an inline coating with UV hotmelt. An overlamination is no longer needed.
